US Mint Sales: Mercury Dime Set and FIFA Coins Debut
U.S. Mint numismatic demand remained strong in the latest weekly sales report, led by the Best of the Mint 1916 Mercury Dime Gold Coin and Silver Medal Set, which sold 28,933 units, or 96.4% of its 30,000 limit, before going to “Currently Unavailable” within hours of release. The launch underscores robust collector appetite for premium, small-format gold products even at a high $810 price point. FIFA World Cup 2026 commemoratives also dominated the week’s top sellers, with the proof and uncirculated silver dollars and half dollars, plus the three-coin proof set, filling out most of the top six. The $5 proof gold coin and uncirculated gold coin ranked lower, suggesting demand is currently strongest for the silver and base-metal versions of the program rather than the gold offerings. Elsewhere, the enhanced uncirculated 1776~2026 American Gold Eagle remains effectively sold out, with sales trimmed to 7,084 against a 7,500 limit. The 2026 Congratulations Set also slipped marginally below its stated mintage cap after a negative adjustment, now at 59,990 versus 60,000. For the desk, this is more a signal of healthy retail/collector appetite than a direct driver of LBMA spot flows, but it reinforces continued interest in gold and silver coins at the margin.
